After spending hours testing out guitars at guitar Center I picked this up and instantly loved it. Altough I wasnt looking for a guitar in this price range I fell in love with it and couldnt go back to the other guitars. I looked at others in the same price range and I couldnt stop comeing back to it. The looks are cool and the modern style is cool even though its not what I usually like. The guitar had really great balance (“weight relieved” body), and the 60′s style neck just topped off the great clean sound this gutiar makes. One big factor while looking for a guitar was the balance and most just didnt add up some where top heavy or vice versa. This one on the other hand was very well balanced. I own a 1960′s silvertone harmony and the les pauls neck really was identical in style. I love this guitar! Stock settings are awesome but if you know someone who can adjust your guitar like a perfesional Luthier the guitar will sound that much better. Its well worth the money and if adjusted properly can sound and feel like you paid double for it.

Just got my Les Paul Silverburst Studio, April 5, 2012

I just went down and bought one of these, I am self taught have played an Ibanez Rg5ex1 for over 5 years and felt it was time for a nice upgrade. When I first plugged this in, I was immediately disappointed, only for a second though, I had a short in my old cord and had forgotten to switch out the old for new. LOL!

This guitar is absolutey BEAUTIFUL. If you are worried about price and all that and if you’re getting a quality Gibson by going with a Studio over a way more expensive Custom. I can’t say, simply because I didn’t even touch a Custom I didn’t want to ruin the feel of this guitar, by playing with a far more expensive guitar and then making myself go “Man I shoulda got a custom” and then be disappointed with what I could REASONABLY afford, even though it is a perfectly beautiful guitar.

So to make a long story short, I went in, told the guy “I want to buy that guitar”, he said “you want to try that guitar?” I said “No, I want to buy that guitar.” He says “you mean now?” I said “Yeh I don’t need to try it, it’s a Gibson…”

Got it home, tuned it and it plays and sounds absolutely beautiful, like I knew it would.

If you have any doubt, spend the extra 180 and get the 3 year Pro-Plan from Guitar Center. On a 1400 dollar guitar, another 180 to insure it for 3 years for any part / ANY damage is worth it. (Of course you would have to ship it, which sucks, but from what I am told by other guitarists is these folks are extremely reliable and they specialise in Gibson, but they fix everything.

Gibson LP Studio Silverburst, November 16, 2011

A year ago I bought a Epiphone Limited Edition 1966 SG as my first “Gibson” type guitar after owning (but rarely playing) a Fender Strat for a number of years. I liked the SG so much, I decided I wanted a Les Paul type guitar. Also, I had picked up a set of Gibson USA pickups for the SG, so I knew the Gibson pickups made a huge difference in the sound and therefore my enjoyment of playing. I really like the looks of the LP Standard, but knew I couldn’t spend $1700-$2500, so I started out looking at the higher end Epiphone LP’s that come with Gibson USA pickups for around $800-$900. However, I picked up a Gibson Studio just to compare and found it felt and sounded much better to me than the Epi’s. I just couldn’t get past the faded finishes on the lower priced Gibsons and several models of the better finished Studio’s had the pickguard removed. I wanted a more traditional LP look, so the guard was a “must have” for me.

I was really happy to find a good deal on a used 2009 Silverburst Studio. The early versions of this model came with an ebony fretboard which IMO looks a lot better with the Silverburst than the Rosewood used on current production models. That said, even with the rosewood, I think this model is among the best looking Studio’s available, just the Ebony looks that much better. As far as sound, I couldn’t be happier. I really like the sound of the 490′s and the coil taps add nearly infinite possibilites. I can’t say they sound exacly like a Fender with single coils, (more like a thin humbucker) but you can get something like a single coil tone at the flip (or pull) of a switch. For heavier stuff, the LP Studio’s humbuckers leave a Fender in the dust. As for looks, IMO even as good as the Silverburst Studio looks, its still not a pretty as a LP Standard to me, but if you have a limited budget as I do, and want the feel and tone of a real Gibson, this is a great choice. Its a nice looking guitar that offers all the playablity and tone of a Gibson LP Traditonal Pro, and the difference in price leaves enough change to go buy a Flying V if you like.

FYI – I play mainly classic rock and blues. My primary amp is a Peavy Classic 30 and I have a Roland Microcube and a Pignose for playing around the house. I have drop tuned the SG to play Sabbath stuff and pretty much play the Studio for everything else, except occasionally playing the Strat when I want to try for that sweet/clean blues sound.
